- Set a good example by your own behaviors involving food and exercise.
- Learn basic information about good nutrition and athletic performance.
- Support healthy nutrition through the consumption of a variety of foods rather than reliance on nutritional supplements.
- Talk to your son or daughter about the pressures to be a certain weight or body build to be competitive or attractive and ask how you can help.
- Evaluate the messages you are sending about weight, dieting, beauty and body image.
- Show appreciation for your child's uniqueness, particularly when your child's opinions differ from yours.
- Convey respect, unconditional love, trust and approval to maintain your child's self-esteem.
- Make physical activity a family affair.
