NCAA Nutrition and Performance - Student-Athlete

As an athlete, preparation for peak performance includes proper training and conditioning combined with dedication and skill.  Sometimes athletes forget that proper nutrition is a key component to gaining the competitive edge.  Even when the best trained and conditioned athlete is not eating properly it will be difficult for them to perform at maximum potential.

Nutrition for optimal performance

The basis for eating lies within the Food Guide Pyramid.  In an athletes' preparation for peak performance, that athlete must get appropriate calories and nutrients essential for fueling the body.  Sports scientists generally recomment a high-performance nutritional intake, that consists of carbohydrates, proteins and fats.  Let us remember that too much of anything is not always a good thing.
