WALTER BYERS POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE

1997-98 ANNUAL REPORT

The committee held a teleconference in March 1998, and met on April 5 and 6, 1998, in Atlanta, Georgia. Committee actions are as follows:

1. The committee selected four male and four female finalists for the scholarship. The male finalists were:

- Robert Gray, Massachusetts Institute of Technology;

- Drew Hansen, University of Utah;

- Joshua Landau, University of California at Berkeley; and

- Christopher Maender, Drury University.

The female finalists were:

- Sarah Gohl, Eureka College;

- Janelle Tranquillo, Ball State University;

- Paula Migliore, Saint John's University; and

- Marsha Harris, New York University.

1. After interviewing the finalists, the committee selected Mr. Gray and Ms. Harris as the 1998 award winners.

2. The committee recommended all finalists receive a plaque as a memento of their achievement of being selected as a Byers Scholar finalist.

3. Based on the committee's recommendation, the Executive Committee appointed Judith Rose as the new chair of the Walter Byers Postgraduate Scholarship Committee. Ms. Rose is the Director of Athletics at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte.
