NCAA Women's Softball Rules Committee Duties & Responsibilities
COMMITTEE INFORMATION FOR INDIVIDUALS INTERESTED IN POSSIBLY SERVING ON NCAA COMMITTEES
NUMBER OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS:
GENERAL DUTIES OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS:
Communicate with the softball community on rules issues during the season.
Keep current on bat and ball equipment issues and standards and educate the softball community on these issues when possible.
Compare ideas and gauge opinions on potential rules changes with colleagues in conference and region.
Communicate the rules-change process to the softball community.
Evaluate playing rules annually to ensure balance between offense and defense and fair play, among other considerations.
NUMBER OF IN-PERSON MEETINGS PER YEAR:
NUMBER OF CONFERENCE CALLS PER YEAR:
A conference call is scheduled for each March to discuss the annual rules survey. Otherwise, calls occur as the need arises. There are generally about three conference calls total per year, and the day of the week and time are determined by the committee members.
OTHER COMMENTS:
If applicant is an administrator, it is advisable for the individual to have played, coached and/or officiated the sport for multiple years, preferably on the collegiate level, or to have a serious interest in and working knowledge of the playing rules of the game. Members should strive to exhibit exemplary decorum during games attended, whether as a participant or observer. Note: This is not the committee that selects the Division I Championship bracket.
