COMMITTEE INFORMATION FOR INDIVIDUALS INTERESTED IN POSSIBLY SERVING ON NCAA COMMITTEES
NAME OF COMMITTEE: NCAA Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
NUMBER OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS: There is one from each of the Division I conferences for a total of 31.
GENERAL DUTIES OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS:
· The mission of the Division I SAAC is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete welfare and fostering a positive student-athlete image.
· Members must be active in their campus and conference SAACs in order to have an informed opinion to bring to the Division I SAAC.
· It is the responsibility of SAAC members to become informed and educated about the various issues affecting Division I.
· SAAC members must keep their campus and conference committees educated about relevant issues at all times.
· Due to their involvement at the local and national level, SAAC members must act as leaders and liaisons within their conferences.
· Adhere to deadlines when submitting and responding to all forms of correspondence from the national office and other SAAC members.
· Review the agenda and all attachments sent prior to a meeting.
· Communicate with the institution's conference office, as appropriate, to help in formulating positions on various pieces of legislation.
NUMBER OF IN-PERSON MEETINGS PER YEAR:
· The fall meeting is usually in November, away from campus, for three days (dates will include weekends).
· The winter meeting is always in conjunction with the NCAA Convention in January for five days (dates will include weekends).
· The summer meeting is usually in July in the same location as, and immediately preceding, the NCAA Division I Management Council meeting for four days (dates will include weekends).
NUMBER OF CONFERENCE CALLS PER YEAR:
· One hour teleconference in April.
· Other conference calls as needed.
