NCAA Division II Leadership Academy

OVERVIEW

What is the NCAA Division II Leadership Academy?
In support of the Division II Strategic Plan, the Leadership Academy is weekend-long opportunity for student-athletes, coaches, administrators and faculty to develop their leadership skills, become more familiar with the Division II experience and plan for action. In a forum intended to foster partnerships, participants are equipped to be active leaders and change agents within their campus, conference and community spheres of influence.

What is the benefit to my campus and conference?
Participants engage in sessions that promote their understanding of the NCAA, Division II Governance, the Division II Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, the Division II model athletics program and other Division II-specific issues. Using information and knowledge gained throughout the weekend, participants representing the same institution create "action plans" for implementation on their campuses in order to influence positive change in cooperation with other campus leaders. The NCAA will seek assessments from participating institutions in order to identify success stories and gauge the impact of action plan implementation.

When is my institution eligible to attend?
Every Division II institution has been designated for one of five regions based on conference affiliation and geographic location. Two regions host the Leadership Academy each academic year in September and February, allowing every institution the opportunity to participate within a three-year period. What is the cost for my institution to attend?
Attendance at the Leadership Academy is absolutely FREE! The NCAA pays for airfare or mileage, shuttle transportation, lodging and meal costs; however, rental car fees are not reimbursed. Hotel expenses (excluding incidentals) and airfare are billed directly to the NCAA. Additionally, the NCAA will reimburse meal expenses associated with travel upon provision of a reimbursement form and expense receipts.

OBJECTIVES

Learning Outcomes
By attending the NCAA Division II Leadership Academy, participants will:

Learn about, develop and apply leadership skills;
Gain insight into their personal styles through self-assessment and peer feedback;
Become better acquainted with NCAA and Division II structures and initiatives;
Work collaboratively with School Teams to develop and implement action plans that promote positive change.
