Preseason Period Educational Campaign

The NCAA is engaged in an educational initiative designed to increase awareness of institutional responsibility for protecting the health of and providing a safe environment for all student-athletes participating in preseason workout sessions. Although it has been a year since the introduction of the football preseason practice model, all fall sports can adopt similar guidelines while conducting late summer workout sessions.

To facilitate awareness, the NCAA has prepared an educational campaign for: head coaches and student-athlete captains from each fall sport; head athletic trainers; faculty athletics representatives; team physicians; strength and conditioning coaches; compliance coordinators; and institutional risk managers.  Key issues covered are football preseason question and answer, coaching principles on periodization and conditioning principles, emergency care and coverage, dietary supplements and banned substances, and preventing exertional heat illness.
