Summer Applications Overview
Basic Information
- The certification process is now an online process.
- An Application Package must be submitted online NO LATER THAN 45 days prior to the first date requested for certification and be scheduled within the permissible viewing period.
- There are two separate NCAA Certifications:
- League Certification is required in order for Division I student-athletes to engage in competition outside of the regular season. (Only permissible from June 15 to August 31 or the first day of classes, whichever is earlier.)
- Event Certification is required in order for NCAA Division I coaches to observe prospective student-athletes (high-school and/or two-year college student-athletes). The permissible recruiting period for the summer of 2007 is July 6-15 and 22-31.
- Applicable Legislation
- Following a certified event, a Review Form must be submitted online NO LATER THAN THREE MONTHS from the last date of certification. The specific date of the deadline is identified in the event's approval letter.
- All deadlines are STRICTLY ENFORCED.
- Operators are responsible for operating their activities in accordance with NCAA legislation and are held accountable to information posted on the Basketball Certification Web site: Certified Basketball Events and Summer Leagues
- Frequently Asked Questions
IF Event Certification is Granted...
- A separate set of information would have to be filed within three months of the last certified date. This "review form" would include information about all of the participants and details of how the activity was run. To meet this requirement, you would need to have all participating teams register online with the NCAA. As part of the team's registration, they would indicate that they intend to participate in your event, which will give you access to the team's roster information.
- All individuals involved in coaching activities must also complete the NCAA approval process administered by LexisNexis. See: Coaches' Approval.
- A comprehensive educational session, consisting of an in-person or video presentation, must be conducted for all prospective student-athletes. See: Educational Tool Kit
