Anticipated Action.  Approve the October 26, 2006, meeting minutes.

 

 

3.         NCAA President’s report. 

 

a.         Update on the NCAA’s response to the letter from the U.S. House of Representative Committee on Ways and Means.  (Information)

 

Informational.  Update on President Brand’s response to the Committee on Ways and Means, including his statement that the purpose of intercollegiate athletics is the education of student-athletes in both the classroom and on the field or court.  The scale of the sport does not alter the fundamental purpose.

 

b.         Report on the reformatted NCAA Executive Committee working group on membership issues.  (Information)

 

Informational.  Receive an oral report regarding the new working group charged by the Executive Committee to study two membership models – one that would establish a fourth division and one that would establish a Division III subdivision.

 

c.         Tulsa Indian Coalition Against Racism (TICAR) award.  (Information)

 

Informational.  Display of 2006-07 TICAR Sports Leadership Award presented to the NCAA Executive Committee.

 

 


4.         NCAA Executive Committee Finance Committee report.

 

Anticipated Actions.  Actions will be taken to approve 2005-06 and 2006-07 NCAA financial statements, as well as approve uses of unallocated net assets.

5.         Update on the National Invitation Tournament (NIT).  (Information)

 

Informational.  Receive an update on the pre- and postseason NIT tournaments operated by the NCAA, which purchased the tournaments from the Metropolitan Intercollegiate Basketball Association in 2005.

 

 

6.         Life and Work Balance Task Force report.  (Action)  [Supplement No. 5] 

 

Anticipated Actions.  Receive a report from the task force to engage the membership in actively promoting an intercollegiate athletics environment that fosters an individual’s opportunity to integrate life and work obligations.  The Committee will be asked to accept the report and to charge the NCAA Executive Committee Subcommittee on Gender and Diversity Issues with its implementation.

 

 

7.         Faculty Athletics Representatives Association (FARA) presentation.  (Information)  [Supplement No. 6] 

 

Information.  Receive a report regarding the promotion of systemic change in intercollegiate athletics and the successful realignment of colleges and universities with the collegiate model of athletics.

 


 

8.         Report from Executive Committee working group created to consider the issue of membership eligibility for international institutions.  (Action)  [Supplement No. 7]

 

Anticipated Action.  Review a proposal to establish a pilot program to permit membership access for a limited number of Canadian institutions.

 

 

9.         Centennial celebration.  (Information)

 

Informational.  Receive an oral report on the success of the NCAA Centennial kick-off at the 2006 NCAA Convention.

 

 

10.       Litigation update.  (Information)  [Supplement No. 8 will be available at the meeting.]

 

Informational.  Receive an update from the NCAA general counsel regarding litigation and settlement actions.   

 

 

11.       NCAA Division I Board of Directors and Divisions II and III Presidents Councils reports.  (Action may be necessary from the reports.)

 

Informational.  Receive oral reports from the chairs of the Division I Board of Directors and the Divisions II and III Presidents Councils regarding divisional issues that have Association-wide impact.   

 

 

12.       NCAA Executive Committee Subcommittee on Gender and Diversity Issues.  (Action)  [Supplement No. 9]

 

Anticipated Action.  Receive an oral report on the subcommittee’s work.  Also, charge the subcommittee with implementing recommendations made by the Diversity Leadership Strategic Planning Committee. 

 

 

13.       NCAA Executive Committee Administrative Subcommittee report.  (Information) 

 

Informational.  Receive an oral report on the subcommittee’s action to authorize litigation against a company infringing on the NCAA's Final Four trademark.

Informational.  Receive updated report regarding governmental relations issues relevant to the NCAA.
