Update on President Brand’s response to the Committee on Ways and
Means, including his statement that the purpose of intercollegiate athletics is
the education of student-athletes in both the classroom and on the field or court. The scale of the sport does not alter
the fundamental purpose.

reformatted NCAA Executive Committee working group on membership issues. (Information)

an oral report regarding the new working group charged by the Executive
Committee to study two membership models – one that would establish a
fourth division and one that would establish a Division III subdivision.

Anticipated Actions.
Receive a report from the task force to engage the membership in
actively promoting an intercollegiate athletics environment that fosters an
individual’s opportunity to integrate life and work obligations. The Committee will be asked to accept
the report and to charge the NCAA Executive Committee Subcommittee on Gender
and Diversity Issues with its implementation.
7. Faculty

a report regarding the promotion of systemic change in intercollegiate
athletics and the successful realignment of colleges and universities with the
collegiate model of athletics.

Review a proposal to establish a pilot program to permit membership
access for a limited number of Canadian institutions.
