Division I Committee on Athletic Certification Duties & Responsibilities
COMMITTEE INFORMATION FOR INDIVIDUALS INTERESTED IN POSSIBLY SERVING ON NCAA COMMITTEES
NUMBER OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS:
- Minimum of 12 members and shall include one chief executive officer, one faculty athletics representative, one director of athletics, one senior woman administrator and one conference commissioner.
GENERAL DUTIES OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS:
- Establish a pool of peer reviewers;
- Select and assign peer-review teams to each institution;
- Determine the schedule of participating institutions;
- Modify and refine standards and procedures for the peer-review evaluation visit as necessary;
- Establish and maintain procedures for the preparation of peer-review team reports and the review-team chair's comments related to an institution's response to the report;
- Establish and maintain procedures for determining whether intermittent peer-review visits should be conducted as a result of changes in an institution (e.g., new personnel);
- Determine the certification status of member institutions, per Bylaw 22.3;
- Review and recommend changes in the certification cycle if appropriate; and
- Carryout any other duties directly related to the administration of the Association's athletics certification program.
NUMBER OF IN-PERSON MEETINGS PER YEAR:
- Four meetings per year (July, September, February and April). Meetings are generally three days in length.
NUMBER OF CONFERENCE CALLS PER YEAR:
- Hour-long and half-hour long conference calls typically occur during the six weeks prior to each in-person meeting. Generally, each committee member will have between four and six conference calls during this period of time.
