Also in attendance were Jacqueline Campbell, Atlantic 10 Conference, chair of the Division I Man-agement Council and Rich Ensor, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, chair of the Division I Management Council?s Governance Subcommittee.

 

NCAA staff members Erik Christianson, Elsa Cole, Joni Comstock, Michelle Hosick, Kevin Lennon, Steve Mallonee, Delise O?Meally, Tom Paskus, Todd Petr, Bill Regan, Wallace Renfro, Greg Shaheen, Katherine Street (intern), and Charlotte Westerhaus were also present during portions of the meeting.

 

The meeting was called to order at 8:13 a.m. by the chair, President Barker. All were present as noted above.

 

1. Opening remarks. James Barker welcomed the group and acknowledged new Board member Kevin Mullens, Siena College, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

 

 

2. Executive Committee. Bernard Franklin along with Executive Committee chair Michael Adams provided a brief review of that group?s August 9, 2007, meeting. The update included information regarding the work of the Executive Committee Working Group on Membership.

 

 

3.            President?s Report. NCAA President Myles Brand provided information on the NCAA National Office?s Green Team initiative as a part of his quarterly report.

 

 

4.            Litigation Update. Elsa Cole, general counsel, provided this report to the Board.

 

 

5. Basketball Distribution ? Unit Value. NCAA Vice President David Berst and Senior Vice President Greg Shaheen lead this discussion.

 

 

6. Report of the Division I Presidential Advisory Group (PAG). The Division I Presidential Advisory Group chair, Bruce Grube, provided an overview of the group?s October 31, 2007, in-person meeting.

 

 

7. Review of the October 22-23, 2007, Division I Management Council meeting. Jackie Campbell, chair of the Division I Management Council, provided this report.

 

8. Consideration of the Governance Subcommittee?s recommendations to revise the Division I governance process and structure. Rich Ensor, commissioner of the Metro Atlantic Conference and long serving chair of the Management Council?s Governance Subcommittee, presented that group?s recommendations for restructuring the Division I governance process.

 

 


9. Report of the Committee on Academic Performance (CAP). Walter Harrison, as chair of the Committee on Academic Performance, presented the report of the October 30, 2007, committee meeting. Additionally, Kevin Lennon, Tom Paskus, Todd Petr and Bill Regan of the NCAA staff were present to assist President Harrison in discussing the committee?s work.

 

 

10. Adjournment. President Barker adjourned the meeting at 2:25 p.m.
