b. Selection Criteria.
(1) Recommendation. That the criteria of "results against teams already selected to the tournament" be modified to note that this would include automatic qualifiers with a Rating Percentage Index (RPI) of 1-60.
(2) Rationale. The committee feels that this better defines a team "selected" to the tournament. With this addition, the selection criteria would read as follows:
When selecting teams, the Division I committee will weigh the following primary and secondary factors.
Primary factors:
· Adjusted RPI
· Recommendations of Regional Advisory Committees
· Head to Head
· Common Opponents
Secondary Factors
· Results against teams already selected (Including automatic qualifiers with and RPI of 1-60)
· Late Season Performance
· Eligibility or availability of student-athletes.
The committee uses the RPI, a computer program that provides the committee with (1) the institutions Division I winning percentage (25 percent), (2) opponents' success (50 percent) and (3) opponent's strength of schedule (25 percent). When breaking down the RPI the committee may consider comparing data of individual teams, including, but not limited to, overall record, Division I record, overall RPI rank, nonconference record and RPI rank, conference regular-season record and conference tournament results.
(3) Estimated Budget Impact. None.
(4) Student-Athlete
Impact. None.
