REPORT OF THE
NCAA WOMEN’S BOWLING COMMITTEE
ACTION ITEMS.
1. Selection
Criteria.
a. Recommendation.
That the fine for not completing
the Event Certification form be increased to $250.
b. Rationale.
In reviewing the forms submitted in the
past year, the secretary-rules editor noted that the event certification form
was only submitted on three occasions throughout the entire year. Since this is the form that verifies the
legitimacy of the regular-season competition, the committee hopes that by
increasing the fine from $50 to $250 it will strongly encourage hosts to submit
this very important form.

2. Number of Allowable
Matches.
a. Recommendation.
That, beginning in 2008, a maximum
of two matches against the same team be allowed per day and that the following
scale be used for allowable matches during the regular season:
|
Number
of Teams |
Number
of Matches Each Day |
|
1-6
teams |
Max.
5 matches |
|
7-11
teams |
Max.
5 matches for two-day event Max.
6 matches if one-day event Max.
5 matches for a three-day event |
|
12
or 16 |
Max.
6 matches for one or two day events Max.
5 matches for a three-day event |
|
17
or more |
Max. 6 matches a day |
b. Rationale.
Due to the increased number of NCAA
varsity bowling programs, the committee believes it is time to adjust the five-matches-per-day
policy. That policy worked well
when there were only six or less teams at tournaments. Now, there are tournaments with 20 NCAA
teams participating and by allowing an increased number of matches to count
toward championship selection, the committee felt this was the best use of the
student-athletes’ time and institutional financial resources. The committee decided to base the number
of matches an institution can play each day on the number of teams participating
in an event. The coaches
association did request a change be made to allow for more countable matches
per day. Further, the committee
felt it still needed to restrict the number of times an institution could play
the same team on the same day and determined that two matches, of the same
format, would be the standard. The
committee felt this was similar to baseball and softball where teams often play
double-headers in one day.

Budget Impact. None.
d. Student-Athlete
Impact. None.
3. Officials’
Fees.
a. Recommendation.
That the following officials’
fees be mandated for the championship beginning as soon as possible:
|
Title (number needed) |
Rate |
|
Head Official |
$750 flat fee. |
|
Assistant Score Keepers (4) |
$35 per match during the
championship rounds. |
|
Assistant Score Keepers (4) |
$25 per block during the
championship qualifying. |
|
Assistant Officials (2) |
$40 per round during the
championship qualifying. |
|
Assistant Officials (2) |
$50 per match during the
championship rounds. |
b. Rationale.
The committee discussed a
recommendation from the coaches association and the head official that we have
two additional officials at the championship. It was recommended that we upgrade to
four assistant score keepers (one for each pair), two assistant officials (in
high chairs to watch four lanes), and one head official who will float among
the competition. The head official is
responsible for all technical aspects of the championship including all
scoring, supervising of other officials, and working with the general managers
of the facility to make sure the championship is conducted properly. The head official will also participate
on the host conference calls.
Currently none of the officials are paid.
c. Estimated
Budget Impact. $755.
d. Student-Athlete
Impact. None.
