1.     Selection of new Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) representative on the Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.  The Administrative Committee, acting on behalf of the Management Council, unanimously approved Aidah Aliyah Rasheed, tennis, Morgan State University, to serve as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference’s replacement on the Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

 

 

2.      NCAA Championships/Competition Cabinet Appointment.  The Management Council Administrative Committee unanimously appointed Ed Grom, associate commissioner, Mid-Continent Conference, to the Championships/Competition Cabinet, replacing former representative Angie Torain.

The conference call was called to order at 10:00 a.m.

 

1.            Request to Stay a Determination by the Legislative Review Interpretations Committee (LRIC). The Management Council Administrative Committee denied a request from the Southeastern Conference to stay a determination by the Legislative Review Interpretations Committee (LRIC) issued on September 27, 2006, (Item Ref: 1) entitled  Cash in Lieu of Meals in Conjunction with Home Competition (I).   In denying the request, the committee noted that pursuant to Bylaw 5.4.1.2.3, the conference still may appeal this interpretation to the full Management Council at its January 2007 meeting.  Additionally, the committee noted that the facts presented did not warrant staying the interpretation until the January meeting as there was no evidence that student-athlete well-being is being negatively impacted as a result of the application of the September 27, 2006, interpretation.

The conference call was called to order at 9 a.m.

 

1.      Division I Academics/Eligibility/Compliance Cabinet Chair.  The Administrative Committee acting on behalf of the Division I Management Council appointed Carolyn Callahan, University of Virginia, Atlantic Coast Conference, as the chair of the cabinet effective after the June 2007 meeting.   In making this appointment the Administrative Committee recommended that in the future the cabinet only forward one candidate’s name to the Management Council for consideration.    

 

 

2.            NCAA Division I Committee Appointments.  The Administrative Committee received a report from the Management Council’s Selection Review Subcommittee, which included recommendations regarding three interim committee vacancies.  After reviewing these recommendations the Administrative Committee made the following appointments:

 

a.      Minority Opportunities and Interest Committee.  Virnette House-Browning, Bradley University, Missouri Valley Conference.

 

b.      Postgraduate Scholarship Committee. Jennifer Brown, Western Carolina University, Southern Conference.

 

c.             Committee on Academic Performance. Janet Blade, Delaware State University, Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

 

3.         Adjournment.  The call adjourned at 9:15.
