SUPPLEMENT NO. 7 DI Mgmt Council 10/07 10/07
NCAA DIVISION I WOMEN’S BASKETBALL GRANT PROGRAM
Administered by the
National
Collegiate Athletic Association
The NCAA has
established a funding program “to grow the game from the inside out and
at a grass roots level.” The NCAA
has committed annual funding for a three-year pilot program in an effort to
enhance attendance growth. The
program would be implemented at the institutional level and/or conference
level.
Grant Objective. Provide support for Division I
institutions and conferences to develop marketing and promotional plans to
enhance and increase attendance growth of Division I women’s college
basketball programs, which would positively impact the attendance growth of the
Division I women’s basketball championship.
Grant Outcomes
1. Double the number of women’s basketball programs, nationally, averaging a minimum of 70% facility capacity in regular-season attendance in a five-year period.
2. Build the average regular-season attendance to a minimum of 60% facility capacity in a five-year period.
3. Within a five-year period, all first- and second-round championship sites should be sold out or averaging a minimum of 70% facility capacity, and all regional round sites should be sold out or averaging a minimum of 80% facility capacity.
4. The matching grant program will undergo a comprehensive evaluation at the end of the three-year pilot program to determine if the program has met the grant objectives in its initial phase and is worthy and continued implementation.
The primary measurable outcome of the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Grant Program is to enhance attendance, awareness and exposure for the game during the regular season and the championship competition segment.
