NCAA HONORS COMMITTEE

ACTION ITEM.

Association-wide

·            Legislative Action Item.

  • Noncontroversial or Emergency Legislation – Bylaw 21.2.3.1 – Honors Committee Composition.

1.     Recommendation.  Adopt noncontroversial legislation to amend Bylaw 21.2.3.1 – Honors Committee Composition to add an additional member to the Honors Committee designating the position for a current or former NCAA institutional chancellor or president.

2.     Rationale.  The committee recommends one additional Honors Committee member who is a current or former NCAA chancellor or president.  The committee believes that an individual with this background would add a global perspective to the committee, particularly in the selection of the Theodore Roosevelt Award honorees.  In addition, the committee believes that with the emphasis on increased presidential involvement, the Honors Committee is an ideal place for presidential input.

3.          Estimated Budget Impact.  $2,000 annually.

4.          Student-Athlete Impact.  None.
