COMMITTEE INFORMATION FOR INDIVIDUALS INTERESTED IN POSSIBLY SERVING ON NCAA COMMITTEES

NUMBER OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS

• Nine

GENERAL DUTIES OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS

• The committee's responsibilities are to interpret Division I legislation consistent with the intent of the rule and original rationale. Also the committee is charged with approving all interpretations issued by the national office staff. The issues are generally very broad, covering most topical areas and can come either directly from the staff or from an institution or conference as an appeal of a staff interpretation

NUMBER OF IN-PERSON MEETINGS PER YEAR (include approximate dates and days away from office)

• 2 in person meetings - one in late Fall and the other in early Spring.

NUMBER OF CONFERENCE CALLS PER YEAR (include the usual day of the week and average length of call)

• Weekly conference calls on Wednesday afternoon for about 1 hour.  There is also an emergency policy whereby an institution may request that the committee convene an emergency call within 48 hours if the interpretive issue relates to action that has already occurred and will affect a student-athlete's eligibility.
