RE: Expenditures for 2005-2006 NCAA Grant
The Division II Athletic Directors Association remains committed to enhancing athletic programs at NCAA Division II member institutions. The association developed guiding principles for the operation of a model Division II athletics program and we would like to continue to use the NCAA grant money to support institutions as they work to integrate those principles.
The 2006 NCAA grant funds for the Division II ADA were expended to support the following initiatives. Some of the initiatives were completed to a satisfactory level. Others were not completed as planned.
$6,490 Division II
We contracted with a past president of the D2 ADA to formulate a strategic plan for the association. The individual was able to identify a direction for the association by gathering data and in-depth discussions at the 2006 NCAA convention. However, there is still considerable work to be done to finalize a truly guiding document. Funds were used to cover the stipend and the expenses related to the data collection. The D2 ADA Executive Committee was unanimous is it?s recommendation to the Officers that a strategic plan needs to be a focus for the coming year. The focus of this plan should be how the association can support the Model Athletics Program as well as the anticipated Community Engagement initiatives that will be proposed for Division II.
$0 Professional Development Programming for Athletic Directors ($5,000)
The association was able to enhance the programming at the annual NACDA convention with sessions that are specific to the roles of D-II AD?s. The programming will be done with emphasis on topics that support the Model Department Guiding Principles. This was done in conjunction with the Division II members of the NACDA Executive Committee at no cost to the association. This was because of the generous contributions of time by members of the D2 ADA and other allied groups within NACDA.
$10,500 Support for AD Professional Development ($12,500)
The association was able to provide stipends for one AD from 20 Division II conferences to attend the annual NACDA convention. The recipients were required to attend the Division II development sessions. This would provide support for each conference and independent group to have a member attend the NACDA convention. The stipend included convention registration ($275) and $250 to assist with expenses. Not all conferences participated.
$1,650 Athletic Directors Association Outreach ($5,000)
This covered the costs of enhancing the D-II ADA webpage, updating surveys and membership solicitation materials. The AD salary survey that was planned will be conducted by the NACDA staff will be conducted in 2007.
$0 Developmental and Education Opportunities for D-II AD?s ( $12,400)
The enhanced programming at the 2006 NACDA convention was a significant step toward improving the professional development of Division II athletic directors. As noted above this was the result of efforts of the members and by the NACDA staff.
However, because the strategic plan was not developed fully this initiative was not fully addressed.. The D2 ADA is in negotiations with two firms to develop an educational program that will assist member institutions in reaching the guiding principles of the Model Department. This will be part of the request for the 2007 Grant. Part of this will include the development of a CD-ROM that focuses on the Model Department Guiding Principles as well as a ?tool kit? that can be used on each campus.
The D2 ADA was unable to fully expend the 2006 grant in large part because we did not finalize the guiding strategic plan.
