DII MINI RULES SEMINARS

The program’s purpose is meant to provide an educational opportunity for those institutions and conferences that are unable to send key campus and conference constituent groups to regional-rules seminars.

Mini-seminars are conducted by the membership services staff and are hosted by Division II conferences.  The target audience is designed to be different than the Regional Seminars.  Conferences are encouraged to select a regional site so a seminar could include more than one conference.

The time frame for seminars is May through December of each year.

The mini-rules seminar program is akin to the regional rules seminar program that occurs three times a year.  Conferences are encouraged to jointly host a Mini-Rules Seminar with one or more conferences.  Each seminar can be conducted at a Division II conference office or a mutually agreed upon site, if the seminar will be conducted for more than one conference with the purpose of providing a low cost rules seminar program specific to Division II.  Seminar participants can select topics ranging from recruiting to continuing eligibility to promotional activities.  The seminar will consist of a one- or two-day schedule that is conducive to active participation by Division II schools.  Mini-seminars are provided free of charge to the membership and can be conducted independently of your conference meeting.  Below are examples of topics and formats for the mini-rules seminar program.  It is encouraged to select a “pre-fabricated format.”

Each conference office can select a format or combine formats.  Each format set forth is for a half-day session or approximately three hours of presentations.  The formats can be combined to make either a one-day seminar or two half-day seminars.

Format 1:

Consists of two main topics.  Each topic session is approximately 90 minutes in length.  Total length is three hours.  This format includes “real world” applications.

Format 2:

Consists of two main topics and one optional topic selected by the conference office.  Each topic is one hour in length.  Total length is three hours.  This format is a “refresher” style presentation.

To schedule a DII Mini-Rules Seminar, Paul Parker, assistant director of memberships services, must receive a written request no later than ten weeks prior to the date of the seminar.  The request must include:  conference participants, the date(s) of the seminar, the selected format, the location of the seminar, and the topics requested for presentation by the NCAA staff.  In addition, please indicate if you would appreciate assistance in identifying another conference to jointly host a mini-rules seminar.
