NCAA DIVISION III ADMINISTRATIVE COMMITTEE CONFERENCE NO. 4

 

 

Those participating were Michael Miranda, Division III Management Council chair; Douglas Hastad, Division III Management Council; Phillip Stone, Division III Presidents Council chair; Sandra Slabik, Division III Management Council vice-chair; Ivory Nelson, Division III
Presidents Council vice-chair; Dan Dutcher, NCAA; and Bridget Belgiovine, NCAA, recording secretary.

 

[NOTE:  The following action occurred August 4, 2005 during an in-person meeting.]

 

Acting for the Division III Management Council and Presidents Council, the Administrative Committee approved the following recommendations regarding two actions items presented to them by the NCAA Division III Championships Committee for approval prior to the start of the 2005-06 academic year:

 

1.         Ground Transportation – 2005-06 Budget Reallocations.

 

a.                   Recommendation.  Reallocate funds from the current travel budget and change the process of how institutions are reimbursed for ground transportation to championships.  Participating institutions will receive a $2,500 flat fee bus rate and $1.25 per mile for ground transportation.

 

b.                  Rationale.  The concept of providing a flat fee rather than the actual cost will allow institutions to better plan for transportation needs as they will have an allocated

 

c.                   Budget Impact.  $339,300 in reallocation.

 

2.                  Required Published Rankings – Team Sports.  The committee confirmed that the number of published rankings be decreased from four to three, starting three weeks prior to the weekend of selections.  Sports committees shall do a regional ranking the weekend of selections to use as part of the selection criteria (e.g., record versus ranked teams criterion), but that ranking shall not be published.  The committee noted that this action was based on feedback from sports committees and staff regarding the timing of the published rankings (i.e., four weeks prior to the weekend of selections has probed to be too early in the season for the majority of sports.
