MINUTES OF THE
NCAA DIVISION III ADMINISTRATIVE
COMMITTEE CONFERENCE NO. 7
Those participating were Thomas Courtice, chair, Division III Presidents Council; Bette Landman, vice-chair, Division III Presidents Council; Joy Reighn, chair, Division III Management Council; Oscar Page, Division III Management Council vice-chair; Dan Dutcher, NCAA; Bridget Belgiovine, NCAA; Joyce Collins, NCAA; John Williams, NCAA; and Aaron Robinson, NCAA (recording secretary). Christopher Walker, Division III Management Council, was unable to participate.
[NOTE: The following actions occurred via teleconference on October 3, 2001.]
Acting for the
Division III Management Council and Presidents Council, the Administrative
Committee:
1. Supported,
in principle, the Division III Championship Committee’s recommendations to:
a. Use
funds from the Division III reserve to cover the $531,915 championships operating
budget deficit incurred during 2000-01.
b. Repay
the reserve through an annual championships budget contribution in the amount
of $132,979 for the next four years (2002-03 through 2005-06).
2. Directed
the Championships Committee to:
a. Review
its budget planning process and championships policies and identify ways to better
contain costs (e.g., travel, site selection, competition, etc.).
b. Consider
establishing a contingency fund to address future budget shortfalls. The Administrative Committee noted this
could be accomplished through the use of some of the funds available during the
next biennial budget cycle (2002-03 through 2003-04) and/or through reallocation.
3. Approved
the following recommendations for appointments to Division III sports and
general committees:
a. Baseball: Eric Etchison, coach, Maryville College
(Tennessee).
b. Men’s
Golf: Daniel Ruyle, coach, Southwestern
University.
c. Women’s
Lacrosse: Beth Bricker, associate
athletics director, University of Puget Sound.
d. Women’s
Soccer: John Hill, director of
athletics, Heidelberg College.
e. Men’s
and Women’s Tennis: John Shackelford,
coach, University of the South.
f.
Men’s and Women’s Track and Field: James Jones, coach, Salisbury University.
g. Softball
Rules: Diane Boettcher, coach,
Middlebury College.
h. Student-Athlete
Advisory Committee:
