Lacrosse Conference as a single-sport member conference.

b.
Membership Education – Supplemental
Mailing for 2002 Convention.
(1) Recommendation. That the chairs of the Presidents Council
and Management Council send a “supplemental mailing” to the Division III
membership highlighting the (a) financial aid, (b) amateurism deregulation and
(c) provisional membership proposals for consideration at the 2002 NCAA Convention.
(2) Rationale. Each of these proposals are of vital importance
to the Division III membership. Because
of the magnitude of these issues, the membership should receive as much
education as possible. The committee
recommends that each proposal be reviewed with as much detail as possible. It is recommended that the memorandum
address possible questions that my arise in relation to these proposals.
(3)
Budget Impact. None.
2.
INFORMATIONAL ITEMS.
a.
Rules
Test. The Division III rules test was sent to the
entire Division III membership in early September. The committee hopes that each institution benefits from this
document. Future versions will be
updated on the NCAA Web site for use by the membership.
b.
Provisional
Member Violation Penalty Schedule. The
committee is exploring the creation of a penalty schedule to be applied to
provisional members who are not in compliance with Division III
legislation. Based on these
discussions, the committee may recommend that a provisional
member may be able to move forward in provisional membership if the school was
not in compliance with “minor” legislation.
c.
