Leadership Institute for Ethnic Minority Males. |

Committee’s Action: |

|
|
The committee approved the schedule and application for the 2001-02 Institute, establishing a March 19 to April 20 enrollment period for candidates. The Request for Proposal (RFP) to secure consultants to develop each of the four weekend sessions and the weeklong workshop was finalized during the committee’s February meeting. The committee determined the selection criteria to review proposals and established mid-April as the timeframe to select the Institute’s faculty. |

Recommended addition of statement of rationale in application to address the fact that the institute is for only minority males, noting that NCAA supports funding for NACWAA/Hers, which provides opportunity for minority women. |

Recommended the addition of the Leadership Institute as part of the Division III initiatives grant for minority males. |
|||
|
|
c. |
Noted the importance of monitoring the number of minority participants at both the NCAA Leadership Institute and NACWAA/Hers Institute. |

ISSUE: |
Video to Promote Careers in Intercollegiate Athletics. |

Committee’s Action: |

|
|
The Committee edited a final draft of the video "Whoever Thought A Passion Could Turn Into A Career." The video promotes careers in intercollegiate athletics to student-athletes. The committee developed a distribution list to include conference offices, career counseling centers and CHAMPS/Life Skills programs at member institutions for a Spring 2001 mailing. |

Conference Officials Survey. |

Committee’s Action: |
|||||
|
|
The committee reviewed data collected from conference offices with the NCAA research staff regarding assignment of officials and agreed to forward a report to the Executive Committee Subcommittee on Gender and Diversity Issues and to conference offices. The data will serve as a baseline of gender and ethnic diversity of officials and will be used to assess equity in officiating conference tournament and regular-season contests. |
