The committee commends NCAA president Cedric Dempsey for hiring Judith M. Sweet to serve as NCAA vice-president for championships and SWA for the NCAA national office. Ms. Sweet discussed her responsibilities related to NCAA championships and her role as SWA, which is evolving. To provide assistance to the president in clarifying the role of the national office SWA, the CWA asked its Women's Advocacy Subcommittee to develop a list of recommendations to forward for consideration after the June meeting.

The committee reviewed correspondence forwarded by the NCAA membership regarding the need for the Association to address homophobia in intercollegiate athletics to assist student-athletes, coaches and administrators. The committee learned that the education services group has requested a budget increase of $10,000 to support the Martina Navratilova Education Fund Homophobia Project to develop educational materials on the topic. Those educational materials will be available to institutions to address homophobia on campuses and will be included as a future component of the CHAMPS/Life Skills Program.
