ISSUE: |
Review of Sports Sponsorship/Field Sizes. |
Committee’s Action: |
The committee reviewed the 2000-01 sports sponsorship reports in order to study access ratios and the number of berths in Pools A, B and C among the team sports and to review field sizes in the individual-team sports. The committee noted that a handful of championships currently have one or zero pool C berths. The committee agreed that to increase Pool C berths without regard to access ratios would reduce equitable access for independent institutions. Additionally, the committee calculated revised bracket sizes using a 7.5 to 1 access ratio. Several sports meet the sponsorship numbers necessary to justify a bracket increase using a strict 7.5 to 1 ratio. |
