Association-wide.
a. Committee
Vacancy.
Jim Fiore has resigned from the committee due to his new position with a
different institution. He requested the
opportunity to serve on the CWA at a later date. The CWA congratulates him on his new position
and will welcome him in the future.
b. Title IX. Plans for the 2004 NCAA
Convention were discussed. The committee
was asked to help identify male and female administrators who have been
successful at maintaining broad-based programs to serve as presenters.
c. NCAA National Office Gender-Equity Plan. Judy Sweet presented the national office
diversity comparison for 2002 and 2003.
The subcommittee on advocacy was asked to review the information and
report back to the committee.
d. NCAA National Office Restructuring
Update. The committee received an
update on restructuring of the national office. Judy Sweet reported that her official title is
senior vice-president for championships, education services and senior woman
administrator.
e. Budget Priorities. The
committee
identified the following priorities for the upcoming budget cycle: (1) women?s coaches academy; (2) Title IX; (3) research; (4) student-athlete
welfare; (5) increased participation; (6) officials; and (7) NCAA interns/scholarships.

NCAA Woman of the Year
(WOTY) Award. The
committee agreed to modify the WOTY selection committee make-up to include a
member of the Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee (MOIC) and a representative from an HBCU.
g.
Boys Sports Initiative. The committee supports the recommendation by
MOIC to eliminate the program to introduce ethnic-minority males to
nontraditional sports and reallocate the funds to a more successful diversity
initiative.
h.
Promotion of Women?s Championships.
The subcommittee agreed for CWA to monitor the branding,
broadcasting and communications marketing plan, including anniversaries of
sports to be identified and recognized, and invite NCAA staff to its January
meeting.
