REPORT OF THE

NCAA DIVISION III MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE

1. ACTION ITEMS.

a. North Atlantic Conference Waiver.

(1) Recommendation. Approve the request from the North Atlantic Conference to recognize the men's program as an active member conference.

(2) Rationale. The committee noted that the North Atlantic Conference met all conference membership requirements.

b. Emerson College Consortium (Bylaw 30.4).

(1) Recommendation. Approve the request from Emerson College to renew its current athletics consortium with the Massachusetts College of Art and add Berklee College of Music, which is not an NCAA institution, to the consortium. Approve the waiver of NCAA Constitution 3.1.2 to allow a second nonmember institution to join the consortium.

(2) Rationale. The committee granted an extension to the athletics consortium between Emerson College and Massachusetts College of Art noting that the institutions are in geographic proximity and that the institutions had a prior academic consortium relationship. In addition, the institutions share academic, enrollment, recruitment and financial aid policies. The committee believes a waiver of Constitution 3.1.2 is warranted to permit a second nonmember institution to join the consortium because the institutions have a previous academic relationship and have consistent policies.

c. Daniel Webster College Waiver Request (NCAA Constitution 3.2.4.11.5).

(1) Recommendation. Approve the waiver request from Daniel Webster College pursuant to Constitution 3.2.4.11.5 ?? Male-Female Enrollment Ratio Waiver.

(2) Rationale. The committee noted that Daniel Webster College was able to provide data, which demonstrated that the male-female enrollment ratio prohibits the offering of the required number of sports for females.

2. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS.

Provisional Membership Chief Executive Officer Orientation Session. The committee reviewed the tentative plan for the fall orientation session for new provisional members. The committee noted that the session should include discussion of the Division III philosophy statement and institutional control. The committee suggested video taping the session to make it available to individuals who are unable to attend.
