REPORT OF THE
NCAA HONORS COMMITTEE
1. ACTION
ITEM.
Association-wide.
·
Change selection criteria for NCAA Silver
Anniversary Award.
(1) Recommendation. That the criteria for the NCAA Silver
Anniversary Award be changed to allow the committee to select up to six
honorees instead of six honorees annually based on the quality of the
application pool.
(2) Rationale. While the committee maintained that
there are quality candidates for this award every year, the group expressed
concern that the criteria required the committee to select six honorees when
the number of applications received has been decreasing. During the past selection meeting,
almost one-third of the applicants were chosen for the honor. The committee supports honoring six candidates
every year if the quality of the pool allows for six honorees that meet the
criteria set.
The
committee recognizes the importance of the Honors Program and is intent on honoring
those who meet the criteria and serve as an example of former student-athletes
who have accomplished much since their days as a student-athlete.
