REPORT OF THE

DIVISION III CONVENTION-PLANNING SUBCOMMITTEE

 

 

INFORMATIONAL ITEMS.

 

a.         2004 NCAA Convention Registration.  The subcommittee reviewed the materials being distributed to Division III delegates:  the Management Council slate of nominees and schedules.  The subcommittee noted that there were 763 delegates including a record number of 105 chief executive officers registered to attend the Convention.

 

b.         2004 NCAA Convention Composite and Delegates Schedule.  [Attachment A]

 

The subcommittee reviewed the composite and delegates schedules, noting schedule changes to encourage increased dialogue among Division III delegates, specifically related to the reform agenda and related legislative proposals.

 

c.         Division III discussion session agenda and participants.  [Attachment B]

 

The subcommittee reviewed discussion session agendas including participants and PowerPoint presentations.

 

(1)        NAD3AA session – Financing Intercollegiate Athletics During Fiscally Challenging Times.  Panelists for the include:  Holly Gera, director of ahletics, Montclair State University; John Harper, director of athletics, Bridgewater College (MA); Gary Karner, commissioner, Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference; and Eugene Marshall, director of athletics, Ramapo College.  This session will be followed by a report of the NCAA Division III Nominating Committee; roundtable discussions; and a NAD3AA business session.   The subcommittee suggested a program for the 2005 Convention:  Best Practices to Conduct Student-Athlete Eligibility Meetings and General Compliance Processes.

 

(2)        Future of Division III Legislative Issues Forum.  The subcommittee recommended the addition of a segment to review the legislative proposals identified for paddle votes (Proposal Nos. 68, 68-1, 69, 70, 71, 72) and the membership sponsored championships Proposal No. 67.

 

(3)               Division III voting session.

 

(4)        Chief executive officers' luncheon and issues forum.

 

(5)        Provisional member education sessions.

 

 

d.         2004 Post-Convention Evaluation Questionnaire.  The subcommittee reviewed the updated questionnaire which includes a section for CEOs only.  The subcommittee also noted that the questionnaire will be distributed to the membership electronically following the Convention.  The subcommittee members noted their responsibility to assist with providing feedback regarding attendance at convention sessions.

 

e.         Future Subcommittee Meetings.  The subcommittee agreed to schedule its next conference call in early March to review feedback from the Councils and membership.
