NCAA DIVISION III MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE

1.      ACTION ITEMS.

§         Conference Membership Request – Great South Athletic Conference.

(1)     Recommendation.  That the Great South Athletic Conference be granted member conference status.

(2)     Rationale.  On its review of the aforementioned conference's application, the NCAA Division III Membership Committee agreed that the conference should be granted member conference status, noting that the conference clearly demonstrated that institutional chief executive officers have the ultimate authority and final responsibility for the operation of the conference, and that the conference student-athlete advisory committee is established.

2.      INFORMATIONAL ITEMS.

a.   Conference Autonomy Survey.  The committee updated the results of its conference policy survey based on responses receives since the June preliminary publication of results.  The summary results are provided in Attachment A.  Complete results will be forwarded to the NCAA Division III conference commissioners and will be made available to the NCAA Future of Division III, Phase II Oversight Committee to aid in the discussions on conference autonomy.  [Attachment A]

b.   Sports-Sponsorship Summary.  A summary of provisional member sports sponsorship, as requested by the NCAA Division III Management Council at its July meeting.  [Attachment B]

c.   Secondary Infractions Proposal.  The committee reviewed the Management Council action to require institutions to submit either an annual report of Level II secondary violations or annual confirmation that the institution did not commit any Level II secondary violations.  The committee determined that it was appropriate to establish that requirement as a condition and obligation of membership.
