REPORT OF THE

NCAA DIVISION III MANAGEMENT COUNCIL

ACADEMIC ISSUES SUBCOMMITTEE

1.      ACTION ITEMS.

a.      Nontraditional Academic Calendar – NCAA Bylaw 14.1.8.2.2.1.1.

(1)     Recommendation.  Accept 2.3 credits as the comparable minimum academic load for practice and competition for Knox College (per NCAA Bylaw 14.1.8.2.2.1.1).

(2)     Rationale.  The NCAA Division III Management Council Academic Issues Subcommittee acknowledged the unique academic calendar at Knox and the official designation by the registrar of 2.3 credits as the minimum full-time program of studies for the college.  The subcommittee determined that 2.3 credits at Knox was roughly equivalent to 12 standard credit hours.  This was a second request from Knox.  The subcommittee initially recommended that student-athletes remain enrolled in at least two credits per term, but maintain an average of 2.5 credits for each term of attendance at Knox.  The college sought the 2.3 credit standard to be consistent with institutional policies for all students.

(3)     Budget Impact.  None.
