REPORT OF THE

DIVISION III STUDENT-ATHLETE ADVISORY COMMITTEE

 

 

1.         INFORMATIONAL ITEMS.

 

a.         Associate-wide Committee Appointment.  The committee appointed Tim Rausch, DePauw University, to serve as the student-athlete representative to the Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sport.

 

b.         Division III Legislative Education Session.  The committee participated in taking the Division III rules test in an effort to better familiarize the committee with NCAA legislation.

 

c.         Student-Athlete Regional Leadership Conference.  The committee reviewed the conference scheduled for January 23-25, 2004, in Dallas, Texas.  The following SAAC members attended the conference:  Jami Goldman, Brad Coffey, Angela Lattanzio, Tim Rausch, Christina Gipson, Sarah Forbus, Adam Mohr and Jaime Fluker.

 

d.         Soccer Substitution.  The committee reviewed the present soccer substitution rule and voted to forward a letter in opposition to the NCAA Soccer Rules Committee.

 

e.         Sport Committee Assignments.  The committee discussed how student-athletes can play a larger role with NCAA sports committees and lend a student-athlete voice.  Tim Rausch was appointed to work as a student-athlete liaison with men’s soccer and Natalie Lyons was appointed to work with women’s soccer.

 

f.          NCAA Leadership Conference.  The committee reviewed details for the upcoming conference scheduled May 30-June 3, 2004, in Orlando, Florida.

 

g.         Joint SAAC Meeting.  The committee joined Divisions I and II in a joint meeting on January 9.  [Attachment]

 

h.         Next meeting.  The next committee meeting will be held July 15 - 18, 2004, in Baltimore, Maryland.
