REPORT OF THE

NCAA DIVISION III NOMINATING COMMITTEE

1.         ACTION ITEM.

Confidentiality of Nominations Documents.

a.         Recommendation.  That committee appointment materials submitted by the Nominating Committee to the Division III Championships Committee and Management Council be considered confidential and not be posted on the NCAA Web site.

b.         Rationale.  The Nominating Committee believes that the recommendations of the committee should remain confidential until the appointments are ratified.  The committee also believes that keeping the materials confidential (even after ratification) is important because the Nominating Committee’s choice may not be selected by the Championships Committee or Management Council.

2.         INFORMATION ITEM.

NCAA Gender and Diversity Audit Report.  Attached is the NCAA Gender and Diversity Audit Report for the Council to review.  This report will be provided to the Council annually as directed in the Division III strategic plan.  The audit report is prepared for the Executive Committee Subcommittee on Gender and Diversity.  It should be noted that among the three divisions, while Division III has the highest percent of women serving in the governance structure, it has the lowest percent of ethnic minority serving in the structure.  Within the Division III governance structure, an effort should be made to increase the number of ethnic minorities serving on sports committees, as well as the ratio of male (59%) to female (41%) committee members generally.  Continued promotion of Division III initiatives seems appropriate.
