NCAA HONORS COMMITTEE

ACTION ITEM.

Association-wide.

· One-year ad hoc position for the Honors Committee.

(1)  Recommendation. Approve a one-year ad hoc position to the committee so that current chair, Valerie Richardson, may continue as chair until September 2006. Her term is scheduled to expire in September 2005.

(2) Rationale.  The committee expressed concern that the terms of five of the nine members would be expiring this year, leaving only two members with more than one year’s experience in evaluating qualified applicants for Honors awards. The request to retain Valerie Richardson as chair for one additional year will provide stability during the transition. The committee believes that this request is especially important considering changes being made to the program this year, including changing to a solely electronic application and review system.

(3) Budget Impact. None.
