NCAA DIVISION III MANAGEMENT COUNCIL

ACADEMIC ISSUES SUBCOMMITTEE

 

 

INFORMATIONAL ITEMS.

 

1.                  Waiver of NCAA Division III Bylaw 14.4.1.4 – Correspondence and Extension Courses from Another Institution.  The NCAA Division III Management Council Academic Issues Subcommittee approved the request of the University of Puget Sound to waive the requirement that correspondence, extension and credit-by-examination courses taken from an institution other than the one in which a student-athlete is enrolled, shall not be used in determining a student’s academic standing.  The subcommittee noted that the student-athlete enrolled in correspondence courses based on advice from the institution.  Additionally, the subcommittee noted that the correspondence course was approved by the institution’s transfer evaluator and a department chair.

 

2.                  Waiver of Bylaw 14.1.8.2.2.1.3 – Learning Disabled and Handicapped Student-Athletes.  The subcommittee approved a waiver of the 12-hour requirement for a learning-disabled student-athlete at Central College.  The subcommittee evaluated the learning-disability documentation and academic progress of the student-athlete and determined that the documentation submitted by the institution provided objective evidence that the student-athlete should be enrolled in less than 12 hours to accommodate for the learning disability.

 

3.                  Waiver of Bylaw 14.1.8.2.2.1.3 – Learning Disabled and Handicapped Student-Athletes.  The subcommittee approved a waiver of the 12-hour requirement for a learning-disabled student-athlete at Fitchburg State College.  The subcommittee evaluated the learning-disability documentation and academic progress of the student-athlete and determined that the documentation submitted by the institution provided objective evidence that the student-athlete should be enrolled in less than 12 hours to accommodate for the learning disability.
