Exempting Contests in Women's Volleyball – Season-Ending
Tournaments
Issue: Current Division III regulations permit an institution to exempt one season-ending volleyball tournament, limited to the events listed in the bylaw and not including the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament. ECAC is requesting an amendment to NCAA Bylaw 17. 28.10.1-(c) to permit institutions to exempt events like the ECAC tournament.
Background: This rule was adopted in 1990 and was initially drafted with the broad language this conference is requesting. Based on convention floor discussion that the exemption should be limited to just the events listed, the language in the proposal was changed (from e.g., to i.e.,). All other sports that permit a season-ending contest exemption have the broad application being requested by the ECAC. The ECAC request and relevant legislative history are included with this supplement.
