Waiver
of NCAA Bylaw 14.1.8.2 – Requirement for Competition. The NCAA Division III Management
Council Academic Issues Subcommittee approved a waiver request from the University of Chicago to permit a student-athlete to participate
in intercollegiate athletics while enrolled in less than 12 credit hours for
his final two quarters, winter and spring of the 2006-07 academic year. In its approval of the appeal, the
subcommittee noted that the student-athlete would not require a waiver if the
institution was on a semester system because NCAA Bylaw 14.1.8.2.1.3 (final semester/quarter)
would permit the student-athlete to compete while less than full time throughout
the swimming season. Additionally,
the subcommittee noted that the course the student-athlete will be taking
during the 2007 spring quarter is only offered during that quarter.
