1. Announcements. There were no announcements.
2. Review of
Previous Minutes. The NCAA
Division III Membership Committee reviewed the minutes from its August 28
teleconference.
It was VOTED
"That the August 28 teleconference minutes be approved."
3. Review Request for 2004 NCAA Convention Attendance Waiver from Transylvania University. The committee reviewed and approved the request from Transylvania University to waive the attendance requirement for the interim director of athletics. The committee noted the unique circumstances of the interim director of athletics and her medical reasons for not being able to attend convention. The committee accepted the institution's proposal of having the faculty athletics representative attend the Convention in place of the interim director of athletics.
4. Review Request for Male-Female Enrollment Ratio from Daniel Webster College. The committee reviewed the request of Daniel Webster College to waive the requirement to sponsor five sports for women during the 2003-04 academic year. The committee approved the waiver based on 1) the data submitted by the institution that indicated the male-female enrollment at Daniel Webster prohibited offering the requirement number of sports for women; and 2) the expectation that Daniel Webster would sponsor five sports for women in the future. The committee expected Daniel Webster to show a good faith effort to field five teams for women and to recruit female student-athletes.
The committee noted that this waiver was good only for the 2003-04 academic year and any future requests for this waiver must be accompanied by an action plan detailing the steps the institution is taking to sponsor five sports for women.
