The following documents are intended to establish the framework for strategic planning in the Division III governance structure.
Strategic planning serves many purposes. It assures that (1) major strategic initiatives and concerns are identified and addressed consistent with the Division III philosophy; (2) priorities are established to focus effort and attention on the most critical issues; and (3) the best possible use is made of finite resources. Effectively accomplished, the plan and outcomes will positively affect Division III for many years.
The Division III Strategic Plan was unveiled in 1998 as the division embarked on its new federated structure. The Division III Management Council Strategic Planning Subcommittee developed the framework for the plan with the broad participation of the Presidents Council, Division III and Association-wide committee structure, and the Division III membership.
The Division III Philosophy Statement is a constant reference point for the overall plan, as well as its individual components. Each recommendation is weighed carefully to assure that it will further the philosophy in the day-to-day conduct of intercollegiate athletics in Division III.
Please keep in mind that strategic planning is evolutionary and on-going. These documents are not static. It is not possible to include every issue raised and still establish priorities that reasonably limit the scope of the plan. However, the plan should be considered a “living documents” subject to necessary modification on a regular basis.
In summary, this plan is the blueprint and road map that serves the Division III governance structure. Success, however, rests upon the continuing broad participation of the Division III membership in implementing the plan and keeping it relevant.
