PRESIDENTS COUNCIL NOMINATIONS PROCESS
JANUARY LEGISLATIVE (NON-INTERIM) VACANCIES
Step 1 - Solicitation of
nominees (January vacancies).
(APRIL/MAY)
· Review and prioritize
Presidents Council (PC) representational requirements.
· Notification of vacancy sent
to all Division III CEO’s (electronic).
· Personal contact by members
of PC Nominations subcommittee.
Step 2 - Screening
process. (JUNE)
·
Identify
all eligible nominees (focus on representational requirements, CEO’s currently
serving within the governance structure and other desirable attributes).
·
Select
nominees for telephone interviews – focus on specific criteria as necessary for
broad representation on the Council.
Step 3 - Personal
contact/interview process. (JULY)
·
Division
III information packet mailed to all nominees (key information relative to
process, DIII philosophy statement, meeting schedule, strategic plan).
·
Subcommittee
members conduct phone interviews with selected nominees to obtain sufficient
information on which to base a recommendation to the Presidents Council.
·
Evaluate
nominees based on the following responses during phone interviews:
ü Familiarity with and
commitment to the Division III philosophy and guiding principles.
ü Willingness to serve and
assume the responsibilities inherent with appointment (e.g., four-year
commitment, subcommittee assignments, attendance at meetings and convention,
duties as assigned).
ü Consensus-building ability
as it relates to working as a group.
ü Support for the Division III
strategic plan.
Step 4 - Appointment.
(AUGUST – NOVEMBER)

Nominations
subcommittee prioritizes nominees following interviews.
·
Nominations
subcommittee forwards recommendation to Presidents Council for review and
endorsement.
·
Nominations
subcommittee member contacts nominee.
·
Mail
ballot distributed to all Division III CEO’s (Bylaw 4.4.3.1.1)
·
NCAA
staff mails appointment letter to nominee.
·
NCAA
News article notifying membership of election.
