NCAA DIVISION III MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE

 

Summary of Recommendations

 

 

ACTION ITEM – MANAGEMENT COUNCIL ONLY

 

ISSUE:

Noncontroversial Legislation -- Division I and II Provisional Members That Reclassify to Division III.

Committee Recommendation:

 

Approve noncontroversial legislation to indicate that any NCAA Division I or II provisional member that reclassifies to NCAA Division III must be subject to the new Division III membership requirements that were adopted during the 2002 NCAA Convention.

 

Management Council Action:

Agreed to adopt noncontroversial legislation.

 

 

ITEMS OF INFORMATION

 

1.  ISSUE:

Education for Exploratory Period Institutions.

Committee Action:

 

There are 20 institutions that currently are in the exploratory year for Division III membership.  Two separate sessions are scheduled to educate the exploratory-period institutions.  One session will occur October 24 at the NCAA national office.  The other session will occur during the 2003 NCAA Convention in Anaheim, California.  Twenty-one people representing 12 institutions will attend the October session, and eight institutions will be represented at the 2003 Convention session.

 

Management Council Action:

Accepted the information.


2.  ISSUE:

Newbury College and Westminster College -- Review of Contingencies. 

Committee Action:

 

On review of additional information from Newbury College and Westminster College, the committee determined that both institutions satisfied their membership contingencies.  As a result, Newbury College moves into year four of provisional membership, and Westminster College is granted active membership status, effective immediately.

Accepted the information.
