PRESIDENTS COUNCIL ACTION ITEMS

 

1. ISSUE:

November Membership Update.

Management Council Recommendation:

Review the November membership communication document, noting that it was reprinted in the December Division III Newsletter and will be distributed and discussed at the 2003 NCAA Convention Division III Forum Sunday, January 12 [Attachment A]

 

Presidents Council Action:

Reviewed the November communication document, noting its support for continued updates and the involvement of chief executive officers (CEOs) in the dialogue.

 

2. ISSUE:

Membership Visits.

Management Council Recommendation:

Review the executive summary of feedback from the membership visits along with the chart of visits, as amended. It was noted that to date more than 600 Division III constituents have had the opportunity for input on the issue. [Attachments B and C]

 

 

Presidents Council Action:

Reviewed the executive summary of feedback, noting its support for continued dialogue and discussion, particularly with Division III CEOs.

 

3. ISSUE:

2003 Convention Presentation.

Management Council Recommendation:

Review the 2003 Convention Forum agenda, noting the role of Council members serving as discussion facilitators. [Attachment D]

 


 

Presidents Council Action:

Approved the Convention discussion plan, noting its desire to receive written feedback from the session.

 

4. ISSUE:

CEO Communications Plan Review.

Management Council Recommendation:

Review and approve the talking points and the chief executive officer contact plan. [Attachment E]

The Council also:

 

l Requested staff to draft a targeted one-page communication to ?get the attention of CEOs.? Topics should include:

 

a. Significant issues on the horizon for Division III

b. Decisions that should be addressed by CEOs.

 

l The contact timeline will be:

 

a. February ? letter to encourage Convention attendance and institutional vote.

b. March ? personal contact.

 

l Review the 2004 Convention for CEOs to:

 

a. To permit CEOs an opportunity to visit conference meetings.

b. To create a more meaningful experience to engage CEOs.

c. To create a subcommittee of CEOs to assist in designing a schedule to encourage CEO attendance.

d. To plan for a meeting of CEOs, with financial assistance, to attend in concert with Mellon Foundation in the fall of 2003.

 

l Encourage President Brand to assist with engagement of CEOs at various higher education association meetings to enhance and encourage involvement with NCAA Convention attendance.

 

5. ISSUE:

Future of Division III Timetable.

Management Council Recommendation:

Review the timetable for additional membership input to include:

 

a. Membership survey ? February/March.

b. Focus group meetings ? April.

 

Presidents Council Action:

Approved the timetable.
