Summary of Recommendations

ACTION ITEM ? MANAGEMENT COUNCIL ONLY

ISSUE:		Male-Female Enrollment Ratio Waivers.
Committee Recommendation:
	Grant male-female enrollment ratio waivers for Becker College and State University of New York Institute of Technology at Utica/Rome with the following stipulations: (1) The waiver be granted only for the 2003-04 academic year; and (2) Any future requests for this waiver must be accompanied by an action plan detailing the steps the institution is taking to meet the sports sponsorship requirements. The committee noted that Becker and Utica/Rome both presented institutional data proving a notable disparity in the male and female populations at the institution, and, further, it noted that Becker is in its first year of active membership and should be actively pursuing the establishment of five sports for each gender. The committee also noted that Utica/Rome has enough women attending the institution to field five athletics teams and should strive to satisfy that membership requirement.
Management Council Action:
	Approved the recommendation, noting that both institutions currently sponsor five sports for each gender; however, this waiver will ensure compliance should they encounter student-athlete participation issues.

1. ISSUE:		Convention Attendance Waivers.
Committee Action:
	The committee granted 2004 NCAA Convention attendance waivers for J. Cameron West, Huntingdon College, and Nancy Hensel, University of Maine at Presque Isle.

Management Council Action:
	Accepted the information.
2. ISSUE:		Membership Quarterly Reports.
Committee Action:
	The committee reviewed the December 2003 membership breakdown, sports-sponsorship report, provisional member report and reclassification report.
Management Council Action:
	Accepted the information.
