Division I Women's Basketball Committee Duties & Responsibilities

COMMITTEE INFORMATION FOR INDIVIDUALS INTERESTED IN POSSIBLY SERVING ON NCAA COMMITTEES

NUMBER OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS:

Ten members

GENERAL DUTIES OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS:

The committee is charged with the oversight of all aspects of the Division I women?s basketball championship, including but not limited to the following:

Championship season (including selections):
- Serve as chairs of respective regional advisory committees.
- Evaluate teams throughout the season.
- Participate on numerous regional and national conference calls.
- Assist other committee members with the selection of teams and creation of the bracket.
- Assign crews of officials to work the tournament games.
- Staff selected sites and assign committee representatives to staff preliminary-round games.
- Attend the Division I Women?s Final Four.
Non-championship season:
- Develop and review agenda items for annual meeting.
- Serve on variety of subcommittees.
- Attend annual meetings.
- Establish and oversee regional advisory committees for the upcoming season.
- Participate on conference calls as needed.
- Site selection for future tournaments.

NUMBER OF IN-PERSON MEETINGS PER YEAR:

Five. The committee meets in the fall (October), a weekend for selection of the teams for the tournament (March) and during the Final Four (March-April). This year the committee added a two-day meeting as orientation to the selection meeting (February). In addition to these, the committee meets for a week during the summer (end of June-early July).

NUMBER OF CONFERENCE CALLS PER YEAR:

Usually four, typically Tuesday or Wednesday and about an hour per call.
