Division III Women's Basketball Committee Duties & Responsibilities

COMMITTEE INFORMATION FOR INDIVIDUALS INTERESTED IN POSSIBLY SERVING ON NCAA COMMITTEES

COMMITTEE COMPOSITION:

• The NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Committee is comprised of eight members, one from each of the eight regions.
  

GENERAL DUTIES OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS:

• The committee championship administration responsibilities only and does not establish rules of play.
  • Responsibilities include:
    • Select teams for the championships.
    • Set the bracket for the championships.
    • Serve as the chair for the regional advisory committee.
    • Participate on regional/national conference calls.
    • Serve as the NCAA representative at first, second and sectional competitions.
    • Attend the championships.
    • Assist in preparation of championship schedules and other event preparations.
    • Assist in the preparation of supplements that are sent to the Division III Championships Committee.
      

CHAMPIONSHIP DATES AND GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES/NUMBER OF DAYS YOU ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND:

• Each committee member serves a four-year term, unless filling an unexpired term.
• The amount of time required to serve as a member of the committee is reflected as follows:
  

CHAMPIONSHIP PRELIMINARY COMPETITION  2-7 Days

• Committee members serve as the NCAA representative at the first, second and sectional rounds of the championship, arriving the day prior to the start of competition to lead the coaches? meeting and staying for the duration of the preliminary competition.
  

NCAA DIVISION III WOMEN'S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS   4-5 Days

• The committee arrives at the site on Wednesday prior to the Friday start of the championship semi-finals and departs following the championship contest, no earlier than Saturday night.  The basketball championship semi-finals and finals are conducted on the Friday and Saturday of the third weekend in March.
  

NUMBER OF IN-PERSON MEETINGS PER YEAR:  

• NCAA DIII WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COMMITTEE ANNUAL MEETING        4 Days
  • The annual meeting is usually conducted during late April.  The committee usually arrives at the site on Monday, serves through Thursday noon, and leaves Thursday.
• NUMBER OF CONFERENCE CALLS PER YEAR:
  • Committee members are required to participate in approximately six national conference calls prior to selections for the championships.  These calls will usually on Wednesday?s the six weeks prior to selections and last 60-90 minutes.
  • Committee members will also conduct a minimum of five regional advisory committee (RAC) calls in January/February.
    

OTHER COMMENTS:  

• SERVING AS AN NCAA REPRESENTATIVE
  • Committee members are primary selections to serve as NCAA representatives at preliminary competition.  NCAA representatives serve as the eyes and ears of the committee and are the key on-site contact for interpretations of NCAA and committee policies.  The representatives have many duties, including:
    • Serving as the chair of the games committee on site.
    • Taking a lead role at the coaches meeting, reviewing NCAA issues and policies.
    • Assisting the host to ensure compliance with NCAA and committee policies.
    • Administering any misconduct issues.
    • Completing follow-up reports that will be returned to the committee.
    • Assist in the decision making process if the event needs to be delayed or canceled.
