NCAA Men's and Women's Fencing Committee Duties & Responsibilities
COMMITTEE INFORMATION FOR INDIVIDUALS INTERESTED IN POSSIBLY SERVING ON NCAA COMMITTEES
NUMBER OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS:
- 8 (two from each of the four regions)
GENERAL DUTIES OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS:
- Championship season including selections:
- Serve as chairs of respective regional committees.
- Evaluate teams throughout the season.
- Participate on numerous regional and national conference calls.
- Recommend and help select a crew of officials to work the championships.
- Participate in the selection of teams and individuals that will participate in the championships.
- Attend the National Collegiate Men?s and Women?s Fencing Championships.
- Non-championship season:
- Develop and review agenda items for the annual meeting.
- Attend the annual meeting.
- Set up regional advisory committees for the upcoming season.
- Participate on conference calls as needed.
- Determining the host institution and site of the championships.
- Arranging for the officials for the competition.
- Supervising practices, meetings and tournament competition.
- Revising and updating the championships handbook and other materials.
- Determining the regional alignment and allocations of bids for the championships.
- Determining the format for the championships.
- Perform those duties as directed by the Division I Championships Committee
CHAMPIONSHIP DATES AND GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES/NUMBER OF DAYS YOU ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND:
- Attend the entire National Collegiate Men?s and Women?s Fencing Championships week. The championships are held two weeks following Regionals (Thursday-Sunday). Regionals are the weekend of the first full week of March. You will be required to arrive at the championships site 48 hours before the start of the championships.
NUMBER OF IN-PERSON MEETINGS PER YEAR:
- Attend the annual committee meeting in July for four days.
- The chair will participate in the championships site evaluations (usually two days).
NUMBER OF CONFERENCE CALLS PER YEAR:
- Conference calls usually take place the second week of every month beginning in November and ending in April. They are usually on Tuesday or Wednesday and last about an hour.
