Division I Women's Field Hockey Committee Duties & Responsibilities

COMMITTEE INFORMATION FOR INDIVIDUALS INTERESTED IN POSSIBLY SERVING ON NCAA COMMITTEES

NUMBER OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS:

• 6 members (one from each of the five regions and one at-large).
  

GENERAL DUTIES OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS:

• Championship season, including selections:
  • Serve as chairs of respective regional committees.  
  • Evaluate teams throughout the season.
  • Participate on numerous regional and national conference calls.
  • Assist other committee members with the selection of teams and creation of the bracket during selection call.
  • Assign crews of umpires to work the playoff games.
  • Staff selected first and second round games.
  • Attend the Championship.
• Nonchampionship season:
  • Develop and review agenda items for annual meeting.
  • Attend annual meeting.
  • Set up regional advisory committees for the upcoming season.
  • Participate on conference calls as needed.
    

 CHAMPIONSHIP DATES AND GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES/NUMBER OF DAYS YOU ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND:  

• Attend the entire championship week (arriving on Wednesday afternoon and leaving either on Sunday evening or Monday morning).  The championship is held the Friday and Sunday prior to Thanksgiving. 
•  Attend selected first and second round games.  Committee members usually arrive the day before competition to attend practices and chair the coaches? meeting and leave after the game.  Committee member acts as the NCAA representative at these games.  Preliminary-round games are the Saturday and Sunday prior to the finals.
  

NUMBER OF IN-PERSON MEETINGS PER YEAR:  

•  Annual meeting is a 3-4 day meeting in January (usually third or fourth week in January).  
• Chair attends coaches association meeting in January.
  

NUMBER OF CONFERENCE CALLS PER YEAR:  

• Committee members are required to participate on regional advisory committee calls prior to each national call and approximately five national committee calls (September-November) prior to selection.  The national calls are generally on Thursdays.  
• The chair participates on approximately three additional calls with the local organizing committee for the current year?s championship
