Division I Football Championship Committee Duties & Responsibilities
COMMITTEE INFORMATION FOR INDIVIDUALS INTERESTED IN POSSIBLY SERVING ON NCAA COMMITTEES
NUMBER OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS:
GENERAL DUTIES OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS:
CHAMPIONSHIP DATES AND GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES/NUMBER OF DAYS YOU ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND:
Attend the entire championship week (arriving not later than Tuesday afternoon and leaving Saturday morning). The championship is held the third Friday in December.
Attend selected preliminary-round playoff games. There are 14 preliminary-round games. Committee members usually arrive early Friday to attend practices and leave after the game Saturday. Committee member acts as the NCAA representative at these games. Preliminary games start the last Saturday in November.
NUMBER OF IN-PERSON MEETINGS PER YEAR:
Attend the annual committee meeting in January (four days in mid-January).
The chair attends the American Football Coaches Association convention (two days during first week of January).
The Division I Football Championship Committee member is also automatically a member of the Division I Football Issues Committee, which meets twice a year (generally in January and early August).
NUMBER OF CONFERENCE CALLS PER YEAR:
Committee members are required to participate on seven regional advisory committee calls and seven national committee calls (every other week through the end of September, then weekly until the selection meeting). The regional calls are Monday morning; national calls are that afternoon.
Committee members also participate on three Sunday conference calls during the playoffs and a Monday call the week of the championship.
For the Division I Football Issues Committee, conference calls are scheduled on an as-needed basis.
