NCAA Men's and Women's Ice Hockey Rules Committee Duties & Responsibilities

COMMITTEE INFORMATION FOR INDIVIDUALS INTERESTED IN POSSIBLY SERVING ON NCAA COMMITTEES

NUMBER OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS:  

• 13 (12 voting members plus non-voting secretary-rules editor)

GENERAL DUTIES OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS:

• Talk with as many constituencies (coaches, student-athletes, officials, administrators, etc.) as possible regarding playing rules and share feedback with committee.
• Attend as many contests as possible to see the effect or playing rules and see potential problems or issues first hand.
• Contact chair or secretary-rules editor with feedback periodically.

NUMBER OF IN-PERSON MEETINGS PER YEAR:  

• Attend the annual committee meeting in June (four days).
• The chair attends the American Hockey Coaches Association convention (three days during last week in April).
• The chair is encouraged to attend a rules clinic in August or September (two days).

NUMBER OF CONFERENCE CALLS PER YEAR:

• Committee members participate on one monthly conference call and occasional other calls as issues predicate.
