NCAA Men's Basketball Rules Committee Duties & Responsibilities
COMMITTEE INFORMATION FOR INDIVIDUALS INTERESTED IN POSSIBLY SERVING ON NCAA COMMITTEES
NUMBER OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS:
- Twelve plus a secretary-rules editor who is the official rules interpreter but has no vote on the rules.
GENERAL DUTIES OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS:
NUMBER OF IN-PERSON MEETINGS PER YEAR:
One, typically in late April or early May, typically three days if in Indianapolis, four days if elsewhere.
NUMBER OF CONFERENCE CALLS PER YEAR:
- Conference calls are held only if an urgent issue arises. Members are invited to listen to monthly officiating calls during the regular season with Division I officiating coordinators and national officiating coordinator.
OTHER COMMENTS:
- If applicant is an administrator, it is advisable for the individual to have played, coached and/or officiated the sport for multiple years, preferably on the collegiate level, or to have a serious interest in and working knowledge of the playing rules of the game. Members should strive to exhibit exemplary decorum during games attended, whether as a participant or observer. Note: This is not the committee that selects the Division I Championship bracket.
